Sunshine + Adjustments

Here in Amsterdam we've been blessed with a few sparkling days of spring sunshine, creating the perfect environment for wandering our neighborhood's scenic canals, basking out on the terrace and enjoying a drink along the river. It's not quite the same as lounging poolside in Florida but c'est la vie!

The jetlag and reverse culture shock have caught up with me this week since my brain has been lost on little things like...

staring aimlessly at the grocery store checkout while not bagging my own groceries...
forgetting to bring my camera along on a trip to Eindhoven...
constantly checking if I remembered to take the keys out of my bike lock...
taking the wrong turns to navigate my shortcut bike routes...

But, I have been speaking lots of Dutch and was clever enough to remember my camera and snap a few photos from one of our wandering afternoons. Of course, once my clumsiness subsides I'll get back to sharing a lot more...

Beers and late afternoon sunshine, spring in Amsterdam doesn't get much better than that...

 The zebra bridge exists!

It's really great to be back, especially with the lucky sunshine. I've been catching up with old friends and adjusting to life in Holland once again. This time around my day to day habits have been mixed with an odd familiarity.

While biking around or visiting certain spots we used to frequent, I catch myself with memories of friends from the last chapter of my Dutch life, only to remember they have all returned to their home countries while my life here keeps going. Moments like that are a thorny part of the expat life but the good thing is, there are always new friends and new adventures to be discovered!

Fingers crossed the sun will shine again this weekend!

Update: Since it's Friday don't forget to head over to Company of Clever for the weekly link up!

  1. That does sound like a nice way to spend an early spring afternoon. I could go for a light beer on a sunny terrace.

  2. 'looks like a sparkling spring day - really good pictures with lots of life in them. I'm sympathetic to your challenges re-entering the Netherlands, the jet lag always does that to me too.
