An Amsterdam bike to call my own

I'm happy to share that... I bought a bike!!! She's cute and yellow like Florida sunshine! Biking in Amsterdam is loads of fun and I'm excited to accessorize my omafiets with flowers, colorful bells and more!

Now that I have a bike to call my own, I can't wait to really get exploring. My mental map of Amsterdam is expanding and navigation on my bike is so much better than walking or using public transport. Of course, the downside to bike riding includes winter and/or rain but it seems these awful elements are unavoidable here in Amsterdam.

One evening, I biked home from a friends house, in the freezing snow and I honestly thought the ends of my fingers would break off. It was awful. What can I say? This Florida girl just isn't cut out for wintertime but hopefully spring and summer are just around the corner. I'm really looking forward to summertime bike rides!

The photo above is from the day I picked up my bike from a local shop, De Fietsfabriek. They create crazy cool custom bikes and even gave me a tour of their workshop. It was fascinating to check out all the different bike creations! When I leave Amsterdam next year, they will ship my yellow daffodil  bike back to Florida for me. What a fun souvenir!

Here are a few other fun bikes I spotted in their workshop...

Obama Bike

Baby bakfiets + Giant bike

Song O' The South Bike
