I made it to Amsterdam!

Yes, I have arrived in Amsterdam safe and sound! Sorry in the delay in blogging but I have been so busy the last week that I never had time to properly focus on writing. Now I have a lazy Sunday so its time to get started! The family is nice and I'm still working on navigational things and getting used to the coordination of five different schedules to look out for but now the first week is over and I’m not packing up to run away... yet!

I’ve settled in nicely to my apartment which will be today’s topic because of course its raining right now (and apparently it rains everyday!) My place is on the very top, up four flights of stairs. With four flights, it's a little cardio workout if you run up all the stairs at once, then factor in cycling throughout town, chasing Dutch kids around and of course, running back up and down stairs all day... I guess there's no need for a gym membership here in Amsterdam.

This week has flashed by but then again, sometimes it feels like I’ve been away for so long!
I’m having a great time so far and am really excited to explore the city. Along with riding my bike, I have used the metro a few times which something that I never did as a tourist here in Amsterdam.

I've got a handy map to mark my favorite spots and keep as a souvenir of my year here. So far, I haven't gotten too lost yet but of course, there is still plenty of time for that!

View from my 4th floor living room

Rainy day view, which is how it usually looks since theres so much rain here! No really, there is so much rain here in Amsterdam and not enough sunshine. I have a feeling that dealing with this dreary weather is gonna be a struggle.

Do you know why the houses are so skinny here? Well, it's because back in the day, you paid by width for how much land you used. Thus tall and skinny buildings! No wonder they say the Dutch are so cheap! I'm sure that I'll take plenty of skinny house photos throughout my time here because of course, the cute houses are everywhere!

Spotted in Oudewater last year...

And click here to see some skinny houses all over the world!

I'm looking forward to meeting new faces but already miss the familiar ones I love back home. Fortunately, with the internet it’s been easy to keep up with people.
Needless to say, a lot of time has been spend video chatting (because of course, it's disgusting to go outside) Jolie and I are enjoyed some stroopwafflen together a million miles away!
That's all for now, as they say in Amsterdam 'tot ziens!'
