Visiting Den Haag + the Mauritshuis

Last weekend was my last weekend in Leiden and my Mom happened to be in Den Haag so, Abbe and I took the train and headed over for a visit.

On our way, I attempted to read a Dutch newspaper out loud. Needless to say, a few weeks of courses didn't make me an expert. In fact, an old lady giggled at me but hey, I'm trying!

This was Abbe's first trip to the Netherlands so, naturally her first time visiting The Hague too. We were lucky to have blue skies while I showed Abbe around town before making a visit to one of my favorite museums. The Mauritshuis has an incredible collection of paintings from the Dutch Golden age, including Rembrandt and Vermeer. We're both art history nerds so, a visit to see the famed The Girl with a Pearl Earring was a perfect addition to our day in The Hague.

Every summer in Den Haag there is a really cool sand castle competition. The Hague is the political capitol of the Netherlands with sand sculptures to match.
